In this letter to Mrs. Mary H. Chapin of Chicago, Washington acknowledges a change of address and name of the recipient and closes by saying, "I certainly do recall my visits to your father's church in Dorchester. I very much hope if you, or Mr. Chapin, are in the South at any time that you will not hesitate to come by and see something of the work we are trying to do here at Tuskegee." Washington served as the principal of the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama for several decades, from its founding in 1881 until his death in 1915.
